NAR Publishes August 2021 Existing Home Sales Report

Existing Homes

Sales Adjust 2% Downwards Nationwide, But Southern Region Still Making Up 43% of Sales.

Each month, the National Association of REALTORS® publishes its monthly Existing Home Sales report. This general report offers statistics on the overall number of sales for the month of August 2021 for existing homes (new construction homes not included).

In August of 2021, the number of sales for existing homes in the United States declined overall by 2% when compared to August of 2020. Several forces may have contributed to this drop in sales, including seasonal factors. The summer months are typically less active for the real estate market. August of 2020 also saw an incredibly more active real estate market, which was largely driven by the pandemic.

As far as regions were concerned, the Southern United States made up 43% of all sales in the country. This is continuing to show the immense popularity of southern states among people from namely the northeast and western regions. Favorable tax laws, weather, and a variety of other factors are driving buyers to relocate to many of the states such as Florida and Texas.

Still, the real estate market is showing consistent activity that is far above levels seen during what were once considered normal years.
