Rick Scrabis has had a
well-rounded life - both personally and professionally. He began in a working
class Pittsburgh suburb “McKees Rocks” where he was born and raised.
Rick graduated from the School
of Foreign Service at Georgetown University (two years behind Bill Clinton).
His junior year was spent abroad at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.
After graduation, Rick traveled
across the country and lived in San Diego with his brother. It was after that,
the legal profession called. Rick got his Juris Doctorate from the
University of Pittsburgh following which he came to South Florida as a VISTA
volunteer with Legal Aid. He then embarked on a career practicing real estate
law and then worked for a title insurance underwriter, Ticor Title.
In 1988, Rick embarked on a new
adventure when he decided to move to Key West. Here he owned and operated the
Blue Parrot Inn, a ten-room guesthouse, which is still in operation today (on
Elizabeth Street). Change beckoned him once again. In 1999 Rick and a business
partner opened “The Brigantine” in Fort Lauderdale which sold in
Rick is now an associate with
EWM where he brings experience and empathy.
