Born in Bucharest, Romania, Mary Sciumaria and her family relocated to Israel.
Even though she spoke Romanian with her parents, she learned Hebrew while in Israel.
With a well-to-do uncle residing in Brazil, her family felt that it would be best to settle there. While in Brazil, Mary became immersed in Portuguese.
It was in Brazil that she received a formal education and attended Pontificia Universidade Catholica (PUCSP). “I received my degree in education and taught Jewish history, geography and the Hebrew language for twenty-three years.” She really enjoyed interacting with her students. In fact, she has met up with some of her students from Sāo Paulo in Miami!
Included in her studies was the Spanish language as many of the research books were written in Spanish. In order to glean the information needed, Mary had to become fluent so that she could translate the information to meet her educational goals.
Mary became fluent in French after having attended Alliance Française for five years, perfecting her skill and knowledge prior to meeting and marrying her husband who spoke French. She also had an opportunity to speak French at home as well as teach her children.
After her twenty-three-year teaching career, Mary opened her own business, a fashion boutique in Sāo Paulo known as, “Ephemeras” where she first got a taste for customer service. She developed a deep understanding of people and their needs. It was the fashion industry that led her to learn English. “Travelling to New York and dealing with fabric vendors and textile merchants, it was necessary for me to become fluent in English.”
Desiring to reunite with her mother and sister, who have lived in Fort Lauderdale since the 70s, Mary moved to the Galt Ocean. “I became intrigued by the Real Estate business as my sister had been a broker for over 30 years. I accompanied her on many showings and soon became intimately familiar with all the developments in my area.” Mary’s sister heavily relied upon her “consumer opinion” when it came to purchases by family members and acquaintances.
Realizing that Mary wanted to live her life in Fort Lauderdale, she became a resident alien and pursued her Real Estate license.
Thereafter, she has been conducting business on the Mile and continues to serve her clientele as she has become so familiar with what they want and need. “I have embraced the American lifestyle and have been in love with Fort Lauderdale since my first visit.”
If you want to work with a Real Estate professional who has a great understanding of world culture, lived on four continents during her lifetime, and speaks Romanian, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Hebrew and English, Mary is your first choice. She lives and loves where she works and what she does.
